See a Picture of this Item 643 Historic President John F. Kennedy single signed baseball personalized to Whitey Ford. Slightly off white Cronin AL baseball signed on a side panel in blue ink, "To Whitey Ford from John F. Kennedy". Salutation and signature rate 8 out of 10 overall with some original lightness to the "T" in "To". The ball itself remains clean with a few areas of minor soiling. The scarcity of authentic John F. Kennedy single signed baseballs is notable, with only a handful of documented exemplars of irrefutable origin known to exist. While the offered baseball is of significant monetary value, the story regarding how it was originally acquired is equally noteworthy. In the early 1960s, during an exhibition game in Palm Beach, Florida, Whitey was approached by a couple of Secret Service agents. After asking Whitey to identify himself, the agents informed him that President Kennedy's father, Joseph Kennedy, had a home in Palm Beach and had requested the company Ford and several of his Yankee teammates for the afternoon. After the game, Whitey, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, and Tony Kubek were escorted by limousine to the elder Kennedy's home. At the end of the day, Whitey, who had had the foresight to take twelve baseballs with him, asked Mr. Kennedy to have the baseballs signed and personalized to him and each of his teammates by then current president, John F. Kennedy. A few months later, Whitey received all twelve baseballs, three signed for each player. Whitey believes his children played with two of them, and those of his teammates have disappeared. The offered signed baseball is the only example that remains. With regard to rarity, provenance, and a highly desirable personalization to a legendary New York Yankees Hall of Fame member, the offered ball must in fact be considered to be one of, if not the, finest of its type. Includes LOA from JSA and detailed letter of provenance from Whitey Ford chronicling the history of the baseball: Ball: EX-EX/MT, Signature: Range EX-NM ($25,000.00-$35,000.00) $26,000.00

See a Picture of this Item 644 President Gerald Ford auto. baseball with Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra. B.Brown AL ball signed by Jerry Ford, Yogi Berra, and Whitey Ford in black ink. Sigs rate 9 out of 10. The ball was interestingly, and comedically, signed a golf tournament in Colorado. Yogi Berra, Chuck Daly, and Whitey Ford were having dinner in the same dining room with Pres. Ford. Since Chuck and Yogi were friendly with the President, Whitey asked them to have two baseballs signed. When they refused, Whitey walked over to Ford's table, claiming that his two dinner companions had wanted autographs, but were too embarrassed to make the request themselves. The President gladly obliged, and wondered aloud why Chuck and Yogi hadn't come over to say hello. Whitey and Yogi then signed the baseball. Includes LOA from JSA and letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: NM ($500.00-$750.00) $550.00

The letter is accompanied by an original 8"x10" black and white photograph picturing Whitey Ford and President Nixon with several others. See a Picture of this Item 661 Whitey Ford game worn glove attributed to the 1962 World Series and 33 2/3 scoreless innings record. Spalding LHT Whitey Ford model #1106 glove exhibiting evident game usage has interior pocket wear and general indications of use to both exterior and interior surfaces. A small puncture hole on the interior goes through to the back of the glove for unknown reasons. The lacings between two fingers at the top are missing, which appears to be intentional as the lacings are tied into a knot on the adjacent finger. The bottom right edge of the backstrap has some wear to the edges. "33 2/3 IN-1962 W.S." is written in period ink on the back of the glove which has also been signed by Ford in black marker. This inscription was written in reference to the incredible record established by Ford of 33 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings pitched in World Series play. The previous record was held by Babe Ruth at 29 2/3 innings, and Ford's record stood until the 2000 season when Mariano Rivera finally eclipsed the mark. While Ford broke Babe Ruth's record in the 1961 World Series, the eventual record setting total was not established until the 1962 World Series, when the offered glove was used. In the second inning of Game #1, Whitey finally surrendered a run to end the streak and establish one of baseball's truly remarkable records. One of the more significant game used player gloves with historical importance to have been offered at auction. Includes LOA from JSA (autograph) and letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: VG-EX ($15,000.00-$20,000.00) $15,000.00

See a Picture of this Item 662 Significant Mickey Mantle 526th Home Run baseball from Whitey Ford. Lightly toned and soiled Cronin AL baseball hit by Mickey Mantle in the sixth inning of a game played on June 11, 1968 between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. The ball was hit off of White Sox pitcher Joel Horlen with one man on base. "Mickey Mantle's #526th Home Run June 11, 1968" is inscribed across the sweet spot and south panel in period black felt tip marker. The offered baseball represents one of the highest numerical Mickey Mantle home run baseballs to have been offered publicly as Mantle would hit just ten more for the season and his career. The ball itself exhibits evident game use including an apparent area of impact to one side panel. Documented home run baseballs of this type are seldom offered to the collecting public. Includes letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: Ball: VG-EX, Inscription: EX ($10,000.00-$15,000.00) $10,000.00

See a Picture of this Item 663 Humorous Mickey Mantle 2,000th Career Strikeout baseball. Toned and soiled Cronin AL baseball is fallaciously inscribed on a side panel in blue ink, "MANTLE'S 2000TH STRIKEOUT". As Mickey Mantle's true career strikeout statistic only totaled 1710, it can be assumed the inscription was written as a joke by Mantle's mischievous teammate. The inscription rates 7 out of 10 with some period ink enhancement to the word "Mantle". Includes letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: VG-EX ($1,000.00-$1,500.00) $500.00

See a Picture of this Item 664 Whitey Ford single signed vintage Giles NL baseball with 1961 dated inscription. Toned and game used Giles NL baseball has a period blue ink inscription written in Ford's hand on a side panel, "14 Consecutive Wins 1961". The inscription is in reference to the portion of the 1961 season when Ford recorded 14 consecutive victories en route to a 25-4 mark. Because the baseball is from the National League, and Ford's win streak dates to the middle of the year, it is unclear why this particular ball was inscribed and not an AL ball that was used in the actual game. The ball is additionally signed (faintly) by Ford's daughter on a side panel and by Ford himself (at a later date) on another panel in blue ink. Includes LOA from JSA and letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: VG-EX ($500.00-$750.00) $700.00

See a Picture of this Item 665 Whitey Ford 200th Win game program. Whitey Ford's personal copy of the program issued on April 22, 1964 for the game between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees in which Ford collected his 200th career victory. Program is neatly scored on the interior and has been inscribed on the front cover by Ford, "200th Win 3-0 April 22, 1964 Ford-W Peters-L". The program itself exhibits some light general handling wear. NOTE: Whitey Ford will autograph the offered program if the winning bidder so desires. Includes letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: EX ($300.00-$400.00) $250.00

See a Picture of this Item 666 Whitey Ford 20th Win game used baseball from the 1961 season. Toned Cronin AL baseball with evident use dating to August 10, 1961 on the occasion of Whitey Ford's 20th victory of the 1961 season. Ford would finish the 1961 season with a superb mark of 25-4 en route to the Cy Young and 1961 World Series MVP awards. The ball is inscribed in period ink across the sweet spot, "20th Win Aug. 10, 1961 Los Angeles" and has been signed by Ford on the panel beneath. The panel to the North of the sweet spot has a small mounting hole which was once used to display the baseball. Highly desirable game used baseball of significance dating to the pinnacle of the Yankees 1950-60s dynasty. Includes LOA from JSA and letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: Ball: VG-EX, Notation and Signature: EX-MT ($2,000.00-$3,000.00) $3,250.00

See a Picture of this Item 667 Historic Whitey Ford professional model bronzed fielder's glove from the 1961 World Series in which he broke Babe Ruth's consecutive scoreless innings streak. Spalding LHT professional model glove used by Ford during the 1961 World Series has been bronzed, which makes a detailed condition report impossible. Nonetheless, there is clear visual evidence of game use to the glove including pocket wear, appropriate webbing use, and backstrap wear. Spalding label (contracted glove maker for Ford in 1961) is visible under the bronze plating on the backstrap. The glove has been mounted on a custom display together with a bronzed baseball. It is unclear whether the ball is of significance or relates in any way to the record breaking game. The display also includes a copy of a black and white photograph taken during the 1961 World Series picturing Whitey Ford wearing a glove that appears to be the offered example. It was common for milestone or historic game gloves and equipment to be bronzed for display purposes, such as Roy Campanella's catcher's mitt and Don Larsen's spikes/ball from his perfect game. Babe Ruth's record for pitching 29 2/3 consecutive scoreless World Series innings stood for nearly 43 years until October 8, 1961, when Whitey Ford eclipsed the mark in Game 4 against Cincinnati. Ford established the new record the following season during the 1962 World Series for a total of 33 2/3 innings. FordÆs record lasted almost four decades until 2000, when another Yankee pitcher, Mariano Rivera, broke the mark. The offered glove represents one of the most revered post-season pitching records in baseball history from the pitcher with the most wins (10) in World Series play. The glove, ball, and photo are all removable from the display if so desired. Includes letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: VG-EX ($7,500.00-$10,000.00) $17,000.00

See a Picture of this Item 668 Significant 1961 Whitey Ford World Series Most Valuable Player award plaque. The 1961 American League regular season culminated with Roger Maris belting his 61st home run to eclipse the all-time single season mark held by Babe Ruth. Maris' season-long home run duel with Mickey Mantle captivated the country, and it was no surprise that fans looked to the M&M boys for yet more excitement in the 1961 World Series. The Yankees were to face the Cincinnati Reds, who had a fine overall team led by pitcher Joey Jay, who had compiled a 21 win campaign. Despite the presence of the Yankees sluggers, it was their ace pitcher, Whitey Ford, who dominated the Series. Ford appeared in two games, and did not allow a single run during 14 innings. In doing so, Ford also passed the mark set by Babe Ruth for consecutive scoreless innings in World Series play. Whitey was truly at the top of his game, and was presented with the Babe Ruth Award for the "Most Outstanding Player of the 1961 World Series". The award is also inscribed as having been presented to Ford by the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association in 1962. The black painted wooden plaque measures 14" tall retaining its original Dieges & Clust label on the reverse, and exhibiting a few minor surface scratches to its edges. Sterling silver placard remains affixed to the front with very light surface wear. The offered award plaque represents one of, if not the, most significant World Series Most Valuable Player award items to have entered the public market. Additionally, the plaque is dated to one of the more storied seasons in New York Yankees and Major League Baseball history, having originated from the personal collection of a central figure from the 1961 World Championship team. Includes letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: EX-EX/MT ($30,000.00-$40,000.00) $44,000.00

See a Picture of this Item 670 1963 New York Yankees home jersey. Pinstriped flannel home jersey retains its original "NY" logo on the front with a restored #19 on the reverse. The stitching outline of the original number is partially visible and appears to be #18 which would have belonged to Hal Reniff. Spalding tag is affixed to the tail front along with size 46 tag. Interior of the tail has a dry clean tag and "Set 1 1963" flag tag. Strip tag with "Ford" has been added to the collar and a small "50" strip tag was added to the tail front. The offered jersey was given to Whitey Ford some time ago, and given the tagging/number changes, was believed to have been altered for display purposes to appear as a rookie era Ford jersey.
