Lot Number: 614

Description: Don Mattingly professional model baseball bat as used by Mickey Mantle c.1991-93. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 34" long and weighs 31.2oz. The bat exhibits heavy use including ball marks, stitching impressions, rack marks, grain swelling, pine tar residue, and unique handle treatment with "boning" to the black surface paint at the bottom 2/3 of the handle. Vintage "7" is written on knob end in silver with model #T141 stamped on the barrel end above Mattingly's facsimile signature. The barrel has also been signed by Mattingly in silver sharpie. From the mid 1980s through the early 1990s, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford operated a baseball fantasy camp. The offered bat was used by Mickey Mantle during one of the Ford/Mantle fantasy camps as indicated by Mantle's uniform number "7" on the knob end (retired number). While the attributed Mantle usage is clear, we do not know if the bat was also used (either before or after Mantle) by Don Mattingly. Interesting Mantle related item from a primary source. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: EX
