Description: "Pride of The Yankees" - Babe Ruth and cast and crew members autographed baseball c.1942. Spalding "Official League baseball" has been signed by members of the cast and crew of the 1942 film, The Pride of The Yankees. The movie was a tribute to the life of Lou Gehrig who had died the year before from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, now known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Inscribed on the sweetspot to "Rudy Mate" (in unknown hand) who served as the film's cinematographer and was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the film. Autographs include Eleanor Gehrig (Gehrig's widow), Babe Ruth (who appeared as himself), Gary Cooper (played Lou Gehrig), Bill Dickey (appeared as himself), Walter Brennan (played sportswriter Sam Blake), Babe Herman (technical advisor), Sam Wood (Director), and Sam Goldwyn (Producer). All are done in fountain pen rating approx. 6 to 8 out of 10. Ball displays even toning with a light clear coat applied and there is a small hole near the stampings which is the result of prior mounting. Includes full LOA from JSA and a vintage 8"x10" photo of Gary Cooper from round the time of the film's release: Sigs. VG-EX/MT, Ball EX-EX/MT
