Lot Number: 127

Description: 1905 James O'Rourke autographed document. "Indemnity Bond" issued on December 4, 1905 has been signed "James H. O'Rourke" on the lower front in period fountain pen rating 8-8/9 out of 10. It was issued as a guarantee that O'Rourke's stock certificate, which confirmed that he owned (13) shares in "The National Exhibition Company" (New York Giants), had been lost and that if found no attempts would be made to redeem it. "Orator Jim" played (21) seasons of professional baseball and was a member of some of the games' most important early teams. His stint with the New York Giants ran from 1885-1892 and alongside one of the most talent laden rosters in history he would help lead them to Championships in 1888 and 1889. His early passing 1919 leaves authentic autographed material in very short supply and his Induction into the Hall of Fame in 1945 ensures that he is among the most desirable of all early baseball stars. General handling and storage wear throughout the document which includes some creases/wrinkles and there are some pin holes near the top. Includes the original May 4, 1891 stock certificate stub (the left hand portion of the original certificate which the bond was issued to replace), Stoneham Family certificate or provenance, and full LOA from JSA: Sig. NM, Document VG
