Lot Number: 126

Description: Rare 1891 Tim Keefe autographed New York Giants stock certificate. Important stock certificate is number (44) and was issued for (20) shares of "The National Exhibition Company" in the name of T.J. Keefe. Keefe was one of the 19th Century's most dominating pitchers and helped to shape the game in its' formative years. He was the second man in Major League history to record (300) wins and his (347) career total is particularly impressive when considering he accomplished it in only (14) seasons (an average of 24 wins a year). Although he spent time with several teams, his tenure with the New York Giants is perhaps the most memorable and he was a member of their 1888 Championship team, one of the most talent laden in history. Keefe passed in 1933 leaving a near nonexistent supply of autographed material behind and his Induction into the Hall of Fame in 1964 renders him signature among the most sought after of all early stars. Keefe has signed the back "T.J. Keefe" in period fountain pen rating 7-7/8 out of 10. It is also signed on the front by team President John B. Day and minority owner Edward Talcott on the back (as a witness). General wear to corners and edges with some light toning and a few minor creases. "Cancelled" upon redemption with a handwritten notation on the front and punch holes along the lower edge. Partially affixed to its' original stub (with tape along the seam on back). Includes Stoneham Family certificate of provenance and auction LOA from JSA: Sig. EX/MT, Certificate VG
