Lot Number: 117

Description: Cap Anson autographed 1898 New York Giants stock certificate. Important stock certificate is number (133) and was issued for (50) shares of "The National Exhibition Company" in the name of Adrian C. Anson. Anson was one of the premier players' of his time and among baseballs' first superstars. The bulk of his (27) consecutive seasons in baseball were spent in Chicago where he was a member of (6) Pennant winning teams. He joined the New York Giants in 1898 to Manage the team and it is likely that his package of incentives included these very shares of stock. Signed on the back "Adrian C. Anson" in period fountain pen. It is also signed on the front by team President Andrew Freedman. The signatures have been graded "EX 5" by PSA however that factors the Freedman, which is crossed out and effected by punch holes, and in our opinion the Anson signature rates 7/8-8 out of 10. Light wear to corners and edges with some light toning and scattered creases/wrinkles along with some pin/staple holes. "Cancelled" upon redemption with handwritten notation to that effect on the front and punch holes along the lower edge. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA with "Stoneham Collection" pedigree noted on the label and includes the original "stub" portion from the Giants stock certificate book: Sigs. PSA "EX 5", Document GD
