Lot Number: 116

Description: Rare Buck Ewing autographed 1891 New York Giants stock certificate. Important stock certificate is number (43) and was issued for (15) shares of "The National Exhibition Company" in the name of William Ewing. Ewing was the premier catcher of the 1880s and 90s and at the time of his 1939 Veteran's Committee Induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame it was written that he was "considered by many to have been the greatest all-around player who ever lived." His stint with the New York Giants ran from 1883-1889 and alongside one of the most talent laden rosters in history he would help lead them to Championships in 1888 and 1889. His very early passing 1906 leaves authentic autographed material nearly non-existent and his Induction into the Hall of Fame in 1939 ensures that he is among the most desirable of all early baseball stars. Ewing has signed the certificate on the back "Wm. Ewing" in period fountain pen. It is also signed on the front by team President John B. Day and Treasurer J.W. Spalding. The signatures have been graded "EX-MT 6" by PSA however that factors the Day and Spalding, which are crossed out and effected by punch holes, and in our opinion the Ewing signature rates 8/9 out of 10. Light wear to corners and edges with some light toning and scattered creases/wrinkles along with some residue/discoloration to left edge. "Cancelled" upon redemption with handwritten notation to that effect on the front and punch holes along the lower edge. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA with "Stoneham Collection" pedigree noted on the label and includes the original "stub" portion from the Giants stock certificate book: Sigs. PSA "EX-MT 6", Document GD/VG
