Lot Number: 115

Description: Rare James O'Rourke twice autographed 1905 New York Giants stock certificate. Important stock certificate is number (194) and was issued for (13) shares of "The National Exhibition Company" in the name of J.H. O'Rourke. O'Rourke ranks among the games' most notable early figures and a career which spanned (6) decades included (21) seasons in the Major Leagues and saw him play past the age of (50). He was a member of numerous Championship teams in both the National Association and National League. His stint with the New York Giants ran from 1885-1892 and alongside one of the most talent laden rosters in history he would help lead them to Championships in 1888 and 1889. His early passing 1919 leaves authentic autographed material in very short supply and his Induction into the Hall of Fame in 1945 ensures that he is among the most desirable of all early baseball stars. O'Rourke has signed the certificate twice on the back "J.H. O'Rourke" in period fountain pen. It is also signed on the front by team President John T. Brush. The signatures have been graded "EX-MT 6" by PSA however that factors the Brush, which is effected by punch holes, and in our opinion the O'Rourke signatures grade 8 out of 10 or slightly better. Light wear to corners and edges with some light toning and scattered creases/wrinkles. "Cancelled" upon redemption with handwritten notation to that effect on the front and punch holes along the lower edge. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA with "Stoneham Collection" pedigree noted on the label and includes the original "stub" portion from the Giants stock certificate book: Sigs. PSA "EX-MT 6", Document VG
