Lot Number: 289

Description: Satchel Paige Hall of Fame Induction ring c.1970s. Classic design features 10K gold ring with inset silver baseball on a black field with "Baseball Hall of Fame" lettered around the beveled edge. "Pitcher" appears on one shank above a relief image of the Hall of Fame. Opposite has the name "Paige" atop crossed bat and ball motif. Resized to currently measure (8.5) and as a result there are no stampings inside. Weighs (26) grams. Clearly a prized keepsake as it was well worn and there is some chipping/cracks to the black portion. Obtained by our consignor from Josh Evans many years ago and includes his handwritten letter stating that "it was purchased in 1978 through Bob Feller, directly from Satchel Paige." The ring is consistent with the player issued examples in almost every facet with a few extremely minor technical design points. Based on the letter of provenance it is quite possible the offered ring was ordered for an acquaintance of Paige as duplicate copy or perhaps for Feller himself as a Paige HOF ring was sold by the Paige family several years ago. Interesting and rare period display piece with relation to Paige's notable induction into the Hall of Fame. Includes letter of provenance from Josh Evans: GD-VG
