Description: Important Kansas City Monarchs uniform with strong attribution to Everett "Ziggy" Marcel c.1945. Museum quality uniform (jersey and pants) representing one of the few surviving original examples known with particular note to relation to one of the most storied teams in Negro League history. The uniform can be traced back to the sale of the Barry Halper Collection where it was originally dated to the late 1930s however research (based on font and construction styles) reveals that it was actually issued c.1945. The attribution to Everett Marcel was made at the time of that sale however we are unaware of how Halper was able to tie it to that specific player. It does appear to very favorably match the uniform Marcel was photographed in later in life for his card in the 1986 Larry Fritsch issued "Negro League Baseball Stars" trading card set. While he does not appear on mid-1940s Monarchs rosters as a player, he was presumably involved in a coaching capacity. It was a particularly noteworthy season for the team as Jackie Robinson joined them for (34) games. Heavy gray flannel jersey has "Monarchs" team name lettered across the front and number "39" on back. A "Goldsmith" tag in the collar has adjacent size (42) flag tag. Matching pants have "37X" stamped in the waist and there are a pair of handwritten notations which include the numbers "2" and "17." Both are trimmed in the same blue and gold accent pipping. Strong use is evident throughout which is expected given that these uniforms were likely recycled through the system for at least a few seasons. The jersey has some staining and is missing several buttons and the trim shows fraying and some areas of loss. Pants have been repaired in several areas (most appear to have been team executed) and there are a few scattered moth holes and some staining. Rarity of original Negro League material of this quality and significance can not be overstated and the offered may represent a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the few surviving uniforms. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and baseball card picturing Marcel in similar if not identical jersey: VG-E
