Lot Number: 207

Description: Scarce Babe Ruth Boston American "King of Swat" advertising broadside c.1922 Exceedingly rare period advertising display done on 11"x14" heavy stock featuring a large image of Babe Ruth in New York Yankees uniform. It was done to promote "Babe Ruth's Own Stories" which were presumably a series of articles he was to write (or put his name too) for the Boston American. Among the list of topics is "Who Plays for Ruth and Meusel while the ban is on?" referring to a suspension of the star slugger and his teammate for playing unsanctioned barnstorming games following the 1921 World Series. They would miss the first (6) games of the 1922 season. Outstanding display qualities with some mild soiling and scattered wear. Some heavy creases, breaks in the material, and missing chips have been professionally restored and color is touched up in a few areas. Very scarce with this being one of two examples we can confirm known: See description
