Description: 1988 Jose Canseco American League Most Valuable Player Award. Significant original award as presented to Canseco for his efforts in helping lead the Athletics to an American League pennant. He enjoyed a banner year in 1988 becoming the first player in history to attain the 40-40 mark (40 home runs and 40 stolen bases) and hit (.307) for the season leading the League in home runs (42), RBI (124), and slugging percentage (.569). He and fellow "Bash Brother" Mark McGwire would lead Oakland to a World Series title the following year. Measuring 16" across, the award has an octagonal burnished silver placard affixed at front with gold appointments to include bust of K.M. Landis positioned below the second base position of a baseball diamond. "Jose Conseco Oakland Athletics" engraved nameplate below "Most Valuable Player National League" titling. A crossed bats/baseball applique below notes year, "1988." Touch of light wear to black painted wooden portion which also some scattered specs of white discoloration. A highly prestigious award representing the pinnacle of success from one of the most feared hitters of the time.
