Description: UPDATED DESCRIPTION: 1909-1927 New York Giants stock certificate book - a trove of team owner/executive autographs and (2) pieces signed by John J. McGraw. Important leather bound folio of certificates issued for shares of stock in "The National Exhibition Company" (the corporate name under which the New York Giants operated) between 1909 and 1927. It contains a trove of autographs of Giants owners and some executives. There are approximately (207) total certificates and nearly all are signed on the front by the acting team President at the time. These will include (23) signed by John T. Brush(NOTE: IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT 2 OF THE 38 JOHN BRUSH SIGNATURES ARE AUTHENTIC WITH THE OTHER 26 BEING SECRETARIALLY SIGNED), (38) Harry Hempstead, and approx. (146) Charles Stoneham (note - it appears that a few Stoneham may be secretarial). Some of these were issued to notable figures and thus will be signed by them again on the back. Among the more interesting pieces include certificate number (380) which is made out to John J. McGraw and signed by him twice on the back (one signature is crossed out). A typed statement regarding the disposition of some of McGraw's shares in the Giants, which was sent with this returned certificate, is initialed "J.J.M." and affixed to the front (removed from album); stub portion of certificate number (318) which is signed "J.J. McGraw" (removed from album); certificate number (320) made out to Horace Stoneham (who has signed the back) and is signed by Charles Stoneham as team President (number 393 is done in the same manner); certificate (330) made out to Charles Stoneham and signed by him on front and back (there are at least 3 others made out to Charles Stoneham); affixed to the stub for number (378) is a 1907 dated certificate signed by John T. Brush; certificate number (420) made out to Hugh Jennings which is signed by Stoneham on the front and Jennings' widow on back (with some related documents incl. a certified copy of Jennings will); and (2) certificates made out to Harry M. Stevens (both signed by his widow). Certificates would be issued and removed from the book with the left hand stub portion remaining. When they were redeemed or turned in for transfer each was then reaffixed to its' respective stub. The methods by which they were secured in place varies (some glued, some taped, some held with pins/clips, etc.) and the certificates themselves have varying degrees of handling/storage wear. In addition, the act of returning the certificate effectively "cancelled" it and most will have notations written on the front to this effect and some have holes punched through the areas in which the team executives signed. Book itself has general handling and storage wear and there are numerous related documents affixed to both stubs and/or certificates throughout. Includes Stoneham Family certificate of provenance and auction LOA from JSA: Overall EX
