Description: Significant Bill Russell Basketball Hall of Fame ring. Important ring presented to Bill Russell by the basketball Hall of Fame in honor of his Induction in 1975. Russell famously refused to attend his own ceremony in 1975, nor did he accept any related accolades, due to his belief that he should not have been the first African American selected. "I felt others before me should have that honor" he later stated. In a private ceremony which took place in 2019 he both acknowledged the honor and accepted the ring which was crafted in recognition. Imposing piece has a bed of diamonds on the top face with a rendering of the iconic Hall of Fame Spire set over top which is accented by another diamond at the apex. "Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame" is lettered around the edge of enamelwork which is done to resemble a basketball. "Player" text appears on the right shank above a relief of Dr. James Naismith. Left has the name "William F. Russell" and year "1975" along with a rendering of the Hall of Fame. Marked "Zales Artcarved 14K" on the interior band. Size (12.75) with little to no mentionable wear and weighs (65) grams. The ring is accompanied by its original hinged lid presentational display box featuring interior lighting and rotating display with Hall of Fame insignia on the exterior. Includes letter of provenance from Bill Russell: NM
