Description: 1999 Bill Russell Tribute Autographed Boston Garden Presentational display. On March 12, 1972, the Boston Celtics quietly raised a white banner with green number "6" stitched into the rafters at the Boston Garden. At the request of Bill Russell to his beloved coach Red Auerbach, the ceremony was held with little fanfare just before game time and last only a few minutes. The Celtics greatest player's number 6 would appropriately never be worn again by another player. On May 26, 1999 the Celtics held a ceremony to re-dedicate Russell's retired number having moved into the new Fleet Center from the Boston Garden. This time, Bill was moved to tears after a thunderous standing ovation from the Boston fans whose appreciation and respect had evolved (deservedly) since Russell's playing career ended. Red Auerbach assisted Bill Russell to once again raise number 6 to the rafters. Framed shadowbox display s presented to Bill Russell to commemorate the 1999 "Bill Russell Tribute" with two inscribed brass placard affixed to green velvet backing. Piece of the Boston Garden parquet floor is at center which has been signed in gold paint pen, "Bill Russell Boston Garden". Framed to overall size of 15"x32" with very impressive display qualities. Unique display piece with relation to an important presentation event. Includes full LOA from JSA (autograph_ and signed letter or provenance from Bill Russell: NM
