Description: Significant 1980 Bill Russell NBA 35th Anniversary Greatest Player in History award. Leaded crystal presentational piece is engraved on the front "Bill Russell, Selected as Greatest Player In The History Of The National Basketball Association, 35th Anniversary Season, 1980-81." In honor of the first (35) years of play in the NBA the League enlisted members of the Professional Basketball Writer's Association to help in naming the (11) best players in history. Those chosen read like a who's who of all-time greats and include Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, George Mikan, Jerry West, and Julius Erving. Standing atop the rankings however was Bill Russell who, in addition to being named to the team itself, was further honored with his selection as the greatest player of all-time. The piece stands approx. 11.5" tall with no mentionable wear and has a "Garrick" mark on the underside.
