Lot Number: 217

Description: Rare October 3, 1951 Bobby Thomson "Shot Heard Round the World" ticket stub. Historic ticket stub issued for the third playoff game between the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers to decide the 1951 National League pennant. The first game of the series was played at Ebbets Field. Game #'s 2 and 3 were played at the Polo Grounds and the tickets were numbered PO-1 and PO-2. The powerful Giants team had fallen to nearly 14 games out of first place by mid-August only to mount an incredible string of victories, winning 37 of their final 44 games to tie the Brooklyn team on the final day of the season and force the three-game playoff. The teams split the first two games forcing the decisive contest on October 3rd at the Polo Grounds. In the bottom of the ninth, Bobby Thomson connected for a dramatic three run home run to capture the NL pennant for the Giants faithful. Offered is an original ticket stub issued for the third playoff game at the Polo Grounds. The ticket has separated into two sections but has been positioned to display as though to have a heavy crease and some other scattered wear. Housed in 21.5"x37.5" framed display (stub mounted by unknown method and we are unaware if it can removed without risk of further damage) which includes 8"x10" and 16"x20" photos signed by Branca and Thomson. Includes auction LOA from JSA: see description
