Description: Babe Ruth 1969 "Baseball's Greatest Players Ever" Outfielder award. During the celebration of the 100th anniversary of professional baseball, Babe Ruth was voted the "Greatest Player in Baseball History". Mrs. Ruth was present at the gala function held on July 21, 1969 in Washington, D.C. to accept the award on behalf of her late husband. Numerous other baseball greats were also on hand to receive honors for their various talents. The trophy measuring 10" tall is comprised of a black onyx base with an applied brass placard on the front inscribed to Ruth along with the Major League Baseball 100th Anniversary logo. A gold baseball is situated atop the base surrounded by a figural brass ring. Minor surface patination is present on the brass areas. Considering the innumerable baseball greats that graced Major League stadiums for the first 100 years of baseball, it is a true testament to the respect accorded to Babe Ruth as not only one of the greatest outfielders of all time but also recognized as the Greatest Player in Baseball History.
