Description: 1969 Babe Ruth "Greatest Player Ever" award. Significant award as presented to Mrs. Babe Ruth during a July 21, 1969 ceremony in Washington, D.C. held in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Major League Baseball. Sportswriters from all over the nation cast ballots to name the best position players in history and selected Ruth as the greatest of them all. The piece stands 10" tall with black onyx base that has an applied brass placard on the front inscribed, "Baseball's Greatest Player Ever, Babe Ruth." Above is the Major League Baseball 100th Anniversary logo. A gold baseball is situated atop the base surrounded by a figural brass ring. Considering the innumerable baseball greats that graced Major League stadiums for the first 100 years of baseball, it is a true testament to the respect accorded to Babe Ruth as not only one of the greatest outfielders of all time but also recognized as the Greatest Player in Baseball History.
