Lot Number: 252

Description: Exceedingly rare Stan Coveleski attributed professional model baseball bat c.1910s-20s. Hand turned Spalding brand baseball with "Covaleski" (sic) player name impressed in the barrel measures 34.5" long and weighs 36.8oz. Spalding logo is stamped in the knob end. Outstanding usage wear is evident throughout with ball/contact marks, some grain swelling, and a handle crack. Several vintage nails are present in the reverse of the barrel which has a circular impression at the end. One of the early 20th Century's premier pitchers, Stan Coveleski won (214) games over (14) seasons including (5) in which he won (20) or more. Though dominant on the mound he was never a formidable hitter but did step to the plate over (1,100) times. Pitcher's bat are typically of noteworthy rarity and in the case of Coveleski this seems magnified with the offered example being the only which we can document having been offered at auction. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX. It should be noted that while Coveleksi had a brother who played around the same time, it is the opinion of PSA/DNA (as noted on the included LOA) that this bat was produced for Stan.
