Description: Tony Conigliaro 1969 Sporting News AL Comeback Player of the Year award plaque. Original plaque as presented to Conigliaro after being awarded the honor of Comeback Player of the Year for 1969 in the American League. During the 1967 "Impossible Dream" season Tony Conigliaro was hit in the cheek causing permanent damage to his retina and vision. Although still recovering from his injury, Conigliaro made a spectacular comeback in 1969 hitting 20 home runs and collecting 82 RBIs in 141 games played. Black painted wooden plaque measures 12"x15" with applied brass placard at top titled "The Sporting News 1969 A.L. Comeback Player of the Year". Bust image of Conigliaro is below along with an additional brass placard chronicling the details of Tony's comeback season.
