Description: Significant Joe DiMaggio Baseball Writer's Association trophy, c. 1941 (restored; see description). Tastefully restored Paul H. Shannon Memorial Trophy dates to one of DiMaggio's most storied years in the big leagues. Trophy was presented by the Boston Baseball Writer's Association with the engraving "to DiMaggio who established all time record by hitting safely in 56 consecutive games for outstanding feat of 1941." Trophy has been replated, with a few noticeable areas of surface wear/spotting, mostly near the base and rim. Base has been completely replaced with new plastic, and figural batter atop the piece is not original. Also included are (5) Boston Baseball Writer's Association Sixth Annual Dinner programs for the event, held Jan. 28, 1942 at Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. DiMaggio was awarded the trophy at this event. Trophy: EX (with note to restoration). Programs (includes previous Hunt Auctions LOA): EX-EX/MT. ($2,500-$5,000)
