Description:1926 Jack Dempsey vs. Gene Tunney fight attributed section of ring rope with supportive and related material (including 2 Dempsey signed pieces) (GD-EX) Interesting archive of material originates from a descendant of a long time former President of the Ohio Boxing Commission, J.E. "Doc" Barnes. Barnes was said to be a lifelong friend of Jack Dempsey. Includes approx. 12" long section of heavy gauge rope which is secured at either end with twine. A small framed display (8.5"x6.5") includes a vintage photo of Dempsey and Tunney and typewritten statement which reads "To Whom It May Concern: This piece of rope was cut from the original ring rope of the Dempsey-Tunney fight at the Stadium, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 23, 1926."; c.1930s sepia toned 8"x10" photo signed "To My Pal Doc, Best Always Partner, from Jack Dempsey." Fountain pen signature rates 7 out of 10. In period frame (very slightly larger than photo); September 1942 dated typed letter signed "Jack Dempsey" (fountain pen, 7/8 out of 10 with blotch of ink to end of last name). Toning/fold lines and includes original mailing envelope. Letter was written J.E. Barnes; Nov. 9, 1938 Western Union telegram from Dempsey to Barnes (large chip missing from lower right, fold lines, tear); (6) vintage 8"x10" photos showing Dempsey and others; vintage 8"x10" photo of Joe Louis; vintage 8"x10" photo signed by Tommy Bell to Doc Barnes; and vintage menu from Dempsey's Restaurant along with a later in life Dempsey (unsigned) Christmas card.
