Description:1951 American All-Stars and San Francisco Seals Tour of Japan scrapbook with numerous choice original photographs (Overall EX) Oversized (12"x15" scrapbook as assembled in the period is filled with newspaper clippings and photographs related to the 1951 tour organized by Lefty O'Doul and including a number of noted Major League players. Some of these players were, at the time, enlisted in Military service and were allowed to leave their units to participate. Highlights incl. a nice selection of 4"x6" and 4"x5" snap shot photos incl. views of Billy Martin in uniform and on field, group photo showing members of the Major League and Seals teams incl. Martin and Joe DiMaggio, what appears to be batting practice with a number of Major Leaguers, DiMaggio and Lefty O'Doul, DiMaggio and a military official, Bobby Shantz, pre-game ceremony scenes, a dinner with DiMaggio in attendance (shown in 2 images), a number of nice shots of Lefty O'Doul, ; some larger 8"x10" photos which relate to visits payed by DiMaggio and others to Military Officials and others (two of which includes DiMaggio), the Major League players whom were serving in the Military but allowed to attend the games and play; and (4) mimeographed copies of the "General Headquarters Far East Command" document which allowed for several of the Major League players to leave their normal units and attend the games.
