Incredible 19th century cigar box featuring interior color litho. label depicting a game scene of African American players in a stereotypical manner. See a Picture of this Item 1016 Significant Satchell Paige and Josh Gibson autographed baseball. Without a doubt one of the finest signed baseballs that we have offered, a cream color Harridge AL baseball with special U.S.N. stampings on side panel signed by the two legendary Negro League Hall of Famers above the U.S.N. stamping. Paige has signed on top, "Satchell Paige Kansas City Monarchs Base Ball Club" and Gibson below, ""Josh" Gibson catcher Homestead Grays". Both signatures and salutations rate 9 out of 10. Ball itself has only some very minor age wear and has been well preserved in its' near original state. Ball originated from a Maryland family whose relative lived in Washington D.C. during the 1930's and 1940's. She was an avid baseball fan and regularly attended Senators games. In addition, she was dating a Naval officer and according to family history these signatures were obtained by her at the game where the two stars appeared. It is unclear, but thought to be the case that the ball was signed at some type of War Bond game or barnstorming game. In addition to a letter of provenance from the family the ball is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Kevin Keating who notes that there is known to exist a very similarly signed ball (although in lesser condition). Spectacular signed baseball by the single greatest hitter and pitcher in Negro League history and by some counts in basebal history as a whole: Ball: EX-EX/MT, Signatures: NM ($10,000.00-$20,000.00) $33,000.00

See a Picture of this Item 1031 Rare and Important Oct. 11, 1924 Opening Game of The First Colored World Series panoramic photograph. Judy Johnson's actual copy of this storied photograph picturing the Kansas City Monarchs and the Hilldale Daisies posed before the first game of the World Series held in Kansas City. Players are identified under their respective image incl. Rogan, Mendez, Duncan, Pompez, Foster, Santop, Johnson, and Mackey. The offered image was discovered in the Johnson family home in (4) separate sections with one 6"x8" section (in the area where Johnson's photo was) missing. The image was submitted to the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Objects where it was re-assembled using a photographic copy of the missing area. Less then 8 examples are known to exist (this one included) and only a few have ever been offered for public sale. See a Picture of this Item 1038 Lot of three original sculpture studies used in the making of Honus Wagner statue c.1952. Lot consisting of sculpted clay studies relating to the bronze statue that was cast and erected near Forbes Field and now stands near Three Rivers Stadium. The offered group includes (2) clay bust statues(11" tall each) and one composite model (17" tall) of the finished monument. Each has some slight age damage and a few unifinished areas but retain a pleasing overall appeal. The statues were sculpted by artist Frank Vittor and are accompanied by a letter of provenance from Frank DeGasperi who worked under Vittor and obtained them from his widow after his death. On the inside of thumb pocket is written in black marker by McGraw, "Hy Zona?, Thank you and good luck -$205.00 Tug McGraw 1981" with a smily face drawing as McGraw is known to draw with his signature. On the back of finger pockets is written by McGraw in slightly lighter marker ink, "I used this glove in the Championship playoffs and World Series -1980 Tug McGraw".
