Description: Christy Mathewson's U.S. Army Officer's hat from World War I with related Type "I" photograph. Visor style hat has the original officer's cap insignia pin affixed on the front. "Cincinnati Regalia Company" mark is on the inside and the size tag cannot be deciphered. A striking 6.5"x8.5" portrait photograph of Mathewson wearing the hat is included (authenticated as "Type I" and authenticated and encapsulated). A highly desirable and very personal piece as relates to this defining period in Mathewson's life. His selfless and noble act of enlistment in the Armed Forces would ultimately lead to severe lung damage and cut short any hopes of a return to his Hall of Fame career in baseball.
