Description: Rare Ty Cobb endorsed Jarvis Sporting Goods leather football helmet c.1910-20s. Rain cap style leather football helmet is constructed of a ventilated shell with sewn on ear flaps. On the back is a near perfectly preserved "Ty Cobb" facsimile signature endorsement with "W.B. Jarvis Co." maker noted below. Cobb had purchased a substantial interest in the Company in 1912 and would lend his name to many products which they marketed. While we have seen a several different come to market over the years this is the first leather helmet which we can recall bearing his mark. Use and some general age related wear includes scuffs/scrapes and some mild discoloration. Interior padding is largely intact and there is some flaking to the leather around the forehead area. A former owners' initials are carved in at the lower back. A desirable style and notably rare from this maker: VG-EXEstimated Price Range: ($1,500-$2,500)
