Lot Number: 296

Description: 1963-64 Bill Russell Eastern Conference NBA All-Star Game professional model jersey (William McSweeny, Author of "Go Up For Glory" Provenance). White jersey has a trio of blue star accents on the front with "East" team name and player number "6" below. Green "6" is positioned on back. Wilson tag on the inside seam notes size "EX-Large." The jersey shows appropriate use throughout with some minor age/handling wear noted for accuracy. During the 1950-60s era Bill Russell's name could have been pre-printed in the NBA All-Star Game program annually. Russell appeared in an incredible total of twelve NBA All-Star contests from 1957-69. Just one season prior to the issue of the offered jersey, Russell was presented with the MVP Award for the 1962-63 NBA All-Star Game behind a 19 point and 24 rebound performance. This particular jersey was the only instance when Russell wore a white All-Star jersey with the game being played on his home court in Boston. NBA All-Star jerseys from the 1950-60s are exceedingly scarce with very few having entered the public marketplace. The offered Russell jersey is without question one of the most significant of its category to have ever been presented at auction with impeccable primary source provenance. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from William McSweeny: EX
