Description: Rare and very fine Tommy Byrne 1949 New York Yankees World Championship ring with original leather presentational case (Byrne Collection). Original World Series ring as presented to Tommy Byrne as a member of the 1949 Yankees championship team retaining its very scarce original tooled leather presentational box. Ring displays "New York Yankees World Champions" lettering encircling inset diamond solitaire of approx. .72 carat weight. Each side panel displays a date of 1949 positioned above classic Yankees team insignia. Interior ring band is inscribed with Byrne's name in cursive along with "Balfour 10K" hallmark stamp. Very fine original condition with minimal surface wear. Size is 11 1/2. Included with the ring is the scarce original tooled leather presentational box with impressed gilt decor of Yankees insignia on lid with "World Series Championship Award 1949" titling. Balfour branded silk interior lid remains intact. Box shows light to moderate handling wear with partially detached hinge to the lid. Byrne enjoyed a fine season with the 1949 Yankees compiling a pitching record of 15-7. In concert with the inclusion of the rare original presentational box the offered ring is one of the finest examples of its type to have entered the hobby.
