Lot Number: 161

Description: Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, and others autographed baseball c.1931-33. Red and blue stitched Reach W.Harridge Official American League baseball has been signed "Babe Ruth" across the sweetspot in fountain pen rating approx. 7 out of 10 (the first name is effected by a spot of rust/discoloration). Also signed by Jimmie Foxx, Connie Mack, Mickey Cochrane, Bing Miller, Max Bishop, and Jim Peterson. Additional signatures rate 6/7 to 7/8 out of 10. Ball displays soiling/toning throughout and has some scattered surface wear. It originates from a Philadelphia area family and it has been passed down along with a story that it was a home run ball hit by Babe Ruth and caught at Shibe Park. As the tale goes, the boy who caught it was escorted to field level by an usher so that Ruth (and others) could autograph his new prized possession. A choice example for display featuring bold and side-by-side signatures from two of the games' great early sluggers. Includes full LOA from JSA: Sigs. VG-EX/MT, Ball GD/VG
