Lot Number: 311

Description: Outstanding Rickey Henderson autographed and 1982 dated professional model cleats - single season stolen base record year. Pair of Mizuno brand "RunBird" cleats show strong use/wear and each has the number "35" written on in vintage black marker. The leather appears have been hand painted in areas, likely to align with Oakland uniform color requirements and the right shoe is signed "To Andy, Best wishes always, 1982, 130 S.B., Rickey Henderson #35." Period marker signature rates 7/8-8 out of 10. The green portions have some upper surface loss throughout (creating a variation in the color) which is likely the result of age. Hendersons' 1982 season ranks among the more significant in baseball history with regard to a single player accomplishment. He stole (130) bases that year, surpassing Lou Brock's (118), to set a single season record for the modern era and he would go on to become the career leader with a total of (1,406). Both his single season and career records stand as some of the very few across the entire spectrum of sports which are never likely to be broken. Obtained by our consignor directly from Henderson. Includes auction LOA from JSA and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
