Description: Willie Mays autographed and attributed game model baseball glove-Bat Boy Provenance with letter from Mays c.1957 (MEARS Authentic). Top of the line MacGregor Willie Mays model G101 fielder's glove exhibiting strong evident use throughout in original condition having only some typical re-lacing to a few areas from use.. The backstrap retains its MacGregor cloth label with "24" written in period black marker (faded) on outside of thumb area. Signed by Mays in blue marker on interior of glove at base of pinky finger area. Willie Mays was a MacGregor endorsee from 1955-72 after previously working with Rawlings Sporting Goods company. Mays was documented to have used the MacGregor G101 model glove during he 1958-1960 time period. The offered glove is a very high quality retail model which can be found in the MacGregor dealer catalogues from 1958-1960 as the G101 Willie Mays model. Several period images from the 1956-58 era clearly picture Mays wearing an identical MacGregor model glove with a full closed web and labeling. It should be noted that the glove is technically a professional quality retail model not uniquely made for professional use. It is equally important to note that Mays (and other players) wore professional quality retail model gloves for game use as documented through period images and primary sourced examples. The glove originated from John Delguidice whose father, James, worked as a delegate to the Post Office Union in New York. One of Delguidice's colleagues was Eddie Carr who also served as batboy for the New York Yankees. The offered Mays glove was obtained by Delguidice as a gift of thanks for assistance with the Union directly from Eddie Carr who had received it from Giants' batboy. Also included is a typewritten letter on San Francisco Giants letterhead regarding the details of the glove and signed at the bottom by Willie Mays in black sharpie. Very desirable Mays glove with extensive provenance and corroborative materials. Includes full LOAs from JSA and PSA/DNA (Mays signature on letter), full LOA from JSA (Mays signature on glove), LOA from MEARS Authentication (Glove), November 2000 dated notarized letter of provenance from John Delguidice, and signed letter from Willie Mays: EX
