Description: Rare Bill Russell Boston Celtics professional model warm-up jacket c.1960s. Green short sleeve knit jacket has "Celtics" team name lettered across the front in white on yellow tackle twill. "Russell" nameplate is snapped on the back. "Wilson" tag in the collar notes size (XL) and an embroidered strip tag below ("6") represents player number. Strong use and wash wear are evident throughout with a few loose stitches and some minor chipping to the green enamel on the snaps. Likely issued, base on style/material, in the mid to later portion of the 1960s when Russell was well established among the greatest players of all-time. Based on materials, labeling, and style type it is certainly plausible that the offered jacket was worn by Russell during his final season in 1968-69. Although not conclusive, the jacket may well have been retains by Russell at the same time as the final NBA jersey and green knit shorts within this same auction.
