Description: Important 1956 Bill Russell Collegiate Player of the Year Award (NCAA Championship Season). Bill Russell revolutionized the game of college basketball upon his arrival to the University of San Francisco. Behind his team approach and defensive approach, Russell led USF to two consecutive NCAA titles and was named as first team All-American. As a result of his exceptional play and leadership, Russell was bestowed with the honor of being named as the Collegiate Player of the Year for the 1955-56 season. Offered is the original award as sponsored by the Coach & Athlete Magazine inscribed to Russell on the front presented May 1, 1956. Laminate wooden plaque measures 10 1/2"x12 1/2" remaining in outstanding original condition having only a few slight chips to the gilt painted molding.
