Description: Museum quality Hank Greenberg professional model baseball bat c.1939-41 (PSA "GU 10"). Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Greenberg facsimile signature burned in the barrel measures 35" long and weighs 34.6oz. Uncracked with evidence of outstanding use throughout including ball contact and stitch marks which cover the barrel and a number of cleat marks. The handle has been tape wrapped for grip in a spiral pattern extending approximately 10" from the knob. Numerous period images of Greenberg confirm his use of tape to aid in grip and this is a highly desirable trait which helps to place the bat in his hands. One of the premier power hitters of his generation, Hank Greenberg is revered among fans and historians as ranking among the greatest sluggers in history. The 1939-41 time period, to which this bat dates, was one of the most productive of his career with his League leading (41) homeruns and (150) RBI in 1940 good enough to earn American League M.V.P. Award honors as the Tigers claimed the A.L. title. In total, Greenberg would win a pair of M.V.P. Awards and appear in (5) All-Star Games. He lead the League in homeruns (4) times and had he not lost nearly (4) of his prime years to military service we can presume that total would be higher. Greenberg bats are notably rare with only a few significant examples to have surfaced with the offered among the earlier and certainly on the short list of the finest in circulation. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions and PSA/DNA (graded "GU 10"): EX
