Description: 1961 Willie McCovey San Francisco Giants professional model road jersey (SGC/Grob "Superior). Gray flannel jersey has "San Francisco" team name across the front and number "44" on back. In the collar is a "Spalding" manufacturers tag. "McCovey 61 44" is chain stitched in the left front tail (denoting player, year, and size) and there is a wash tag inside. In fine overall condition with appropriate mild use and wash wear evident throughout. One of the most feared power hitters of his time, McCovey retired second only to Babe Ruth in career homeruns for left handed batters and behind only Lou Gehrig in career grand slams. His lengthy career was primarily spent with the Giants and saw him claim the 1959 N.L. Rookie of the Year Award, lead the league in homeruns (3) times, and he was named the 1969 Most Valuable Player.
