Description: Extremely scarce Christy Mathewson Draper & Maynard advertising display c.1910-15. Exceptional rarity and one of the pre-eminent advertising pieces of the period. Die-cut counter top advertising display (18" tall and 9" across at widest point) shows Matty in New York Giants uniform displaying classic form with his arms raised above head. "D&M Sporting Goods" titling appears across the bottom with an "Are Made Of Honor" motto. The famed lucky dog logo is to one side and he is identified, "Christy Mathewson", at lower right. The piece offers strong display value and has undergone some subtle and expertly done restoration (most notably some cracks have been secured from behind). There is scattered wear to include moderate edge chipping, a few creases/cracks, and some pinholes. Mathewson's left hand is missing at the very top. To the best of our knowledge there has been only one other example of this piece offered at auction (Halper Collection) and this is the first we can recall seeing outside of that venue: VG-EX (With note to restoration)Estimated Price Range: ($7,500-$15,000)
