Description: Significant 1983 Johnny Bench Cincinnati Reds professional model home uniform with attribution to 389th Home Run (SGC/Grob Superior). White knit jersey retaining is original Reds embroidered/tackle twill patch on front along with number "5". Reverse displays "Bench" lettering with number "5" below. Proper Rawlings tag on interior tail front along with "Set 1 1983" flag tag. Matching pants retain Rawlings manufacturer's label on interior waistband along with identified strip tag showing Bench's uniform number, size, year. Both jersey and pants exhibit evident use and wash wear including several small areas of soiling. Signed across the front by Bench, "Johnny Bench My Last Reds Home Jersey Sept. 17, 1983 HR #389". The offered jersey was retained by Bench as used in the game played on September 17, 1983 in which he hit his 389th and final career home run. The date, of course, happened to be Johnny Bench Day at which the Reds celebrated Bench's career with pre game ceremonies. Bench completed his Hall of Fame career in 1983 as the most decorated catcher in the history of the game. This particular uniform was the lone playing career example retained within the Bench collection and certainly ranks among the very finest Bench game jerseys to have been publicly offered. Includes LOA from SGC/Grob (Superior)(jersey), vintage black and white 8"x10" photo of Bench with Tony Perez at the 9/17/83 game signed and inscribed by Bench at bottom, and LOA from JSA (autograph): EX
