Description: Rare 1916 Harry Hooper Boston Red Sox World Championship presentational pocketwatch. The 1916 Boston Red Sox continued their dominance of the 1910-20 period capturing their second straight World Championship. The team boasted a robust combination of veteran star players and budding superstars including Smoky Joe Wood, Harry Hooper, Herb Pennock, Duffy Lewis, and Babe Ruth. Harry Hooper was a fixture with the Red Sox during the 1910-20 period winning four World Championships in his tenure with the club. Hooper collected nearly 2,500 hits in his Hall of Fame career and along with Tris Speaker and Duffy Lewis formed the "Golden Outfield" ranking among the greatest trio in the history of the game. For their 1916 World Championship victory the members of the Red Sox team were awarded with the offered gold pocketwatch to which we are proud to present Harry Hooper's personal example. Greun 14K gold pocket watch remains in running order with general light to moderate handling wear including some minor surface abrasions to the dial facade. The backplate features an impressed insignia with "World's Champions 1916" surrounded by floral garniture. Interior of the backplate reveals Gruen hallmarks along with "14k" designation below "Harry B. Hooper" name in cursive script. The offered watch is one of only a scant few examples that have been publicly sold and is without question the most significant player of that population. Hall of Fame player championship award offerings are exceedingly uncommon with special note to the date period of this particular piece being made available to the collecting public for the first time: EX
