Lot Number: 1

Description: Important autographed and inscribed November 12, 1949 Boston University vs. University of Maryland football program-Vin Scully's First Network Radio Broadcast. Original program as issued for the Boston University football game played at Fenway Park which Vin Scully was asked to broadcast for his first network radio sports broadcast. Scully executed the broadcast at a single folding table on the rooftop of Fenway Park, with no coat, boots, or hat, in freezing temperatures. Despite the conditions, Scully's talents were evident and so impressed Red Barber that it led to a Harvard/Yale game the following week and eventually to a spot on the Brooklyn Dodgers' broadcasts. Program is unscored with evident use and is signed at the bottom in black ink, "1st CBS Broadcast from the roof of Fenway Park. No booth. No hat. No coat. Freezing. Red Barber impressed. Next week Harvard-Yale led eventually to the Dodgers 1950 Vin Scully 12-25-12". Very unique and obscurely significant program related to the inception of the career for arguably the greatest broadcaster in sports history. Includes auction LOA from JSA (autograph) and letter of provenance from Vin Scully: Program: GD-VG, Signature: NM
