Description: Exceptional Mickey Mantle autographed professional model baseball bat c.1968 (Final Season) (PSA/DNA GU 9.5). Mickey Mantle's glorious yet injury filled career was coming to an end as the 1968 season approached. His body had been the victim of countless setbacks and ferocious play on the diamond to which it was finally time to end his iconic career. (14) AL titles, (9) World Series championships, and countless personal accolades, were the spoils of Mantle's legacy. Although the 1968 season was his last, Mickey fought valiantly to play to the level expected by his adoring fans. Mantle connected for 18 home runs that season, many of which tied or eclipsed marks of note ending with a career total of 536. The offered bat is just one of five ordered that season and almost assuredly responsible for the demise of several home run baseballs. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 34" long and weighs 31.4oz. The bat is pounded with use including ball marks, rack marks, stitching impressions, pine tar residue, and grain swelling. Model K55 stamped on the knob end along with original green "7' having black "7" over top likely in the period. According to Hillerich & Bradsby Co. records, Mantle ordered three of this model bat on July 18, 1968 and only two more on August 2nd, making this particular example one of the very rarest of any Mantle model game bat. Beautifully presented weapon as wielded by one of the greatest hitters and iconic players in the history of the game. Includes LOAs from PSA/DNA (GU 9.5)(bat) and JSA (autograph): EX
