Description: Important 1929 Babe Ruth “Most Popular Baseball Idol” presentational trophy – photo matched to on field presentation in Fenway Park (Ruth Apartment Photo Match). Significant award as presented to Ruth on September 24, 1929 during a pre-game ceremony at Fenway Park in Boston is, to the best of our knowledge, the only photo match baseball related trophy ever presented to The Babe to reach the open market (others currently reside in the Baseball Hall of Fame). Former Mayor, and Boston stalwart, James M. Curley was on hand and declared Ruth “the greatest ball player of all time.” The loving cup stands just over (2) feet tall with a Bakelite base supporting the upright cup and a lid which sits atop. The body has been engraved, “Presented To George H Babe Ruth, America’s Most Popular Baseball Idol, Babe Ruth Day, Sept. 24, 1929.” Some mild wear largely takes the form of waviness to the very top lip of the cup portion and when the lid is positioned for display this has minimal visual impact. The figural angel on top has been reaffixed and is missing a portion of her right arm; damage that the Ruth Family has relayed occurred when The Babe himself was throwing things around his New York apartment in a fit of rage after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Recently discovered within the Family home and includes a letter of provenance from the Ruth Family. A singular opportunity to acquire one of the most important baseball player trophies ever offered at auction: Overall EX
