Lot Number: 201

Description: Fine Babe Ruth Esquire All American jacket with related participant uniform c.1945-46. Red long sleeve jacket has "Esquire" across the front in scripted logo font and "All American" block lettered on back (the "I" is missing although there is no outline in the place that it would have occupied and it is presumed to have never been put on). An embroidered strip tag inside reads "Babe Ruth" and there is a "Wilson" manufacturer's tag in the collar. The All American games, played annually under several different names/sponsors, showcased the top high school talent in the country and Ruth managed the "East" team in the 1945 affair. The jacket is said to have been gifted to the nephew of a resident of the same New York apartment building as Claire Ruth after Babe's passing. Included is an original program for the 1946 game and the uniform (jersey, pants, and stirrup socks) issued to Jack Thrush, a participant in the 1946 event which took place in Chicago. The jersey sleeve patch was removed and sewn onto the jacket to replace the original which had, at some point, been removed (the uniform now having a reproduction in its place). Both jacket and uniform remain in fine overall condition with light usage and some general age related wear. Highly desirable Ruth uniform piece with exceptional visual appeal. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
