Lot Number: 400

Description: Historic 1962 Candlestick Park pitching rubber from their National League Championship season. Important piece as removed from the noted San Francisco venue was used throughout the Giants Championship run and presented to Billy Pierce at the close of the season. Well used with expected soiling and visible wear. An engraved metal plate has been affixed to one side which lists Pierce's season record and opponents as well his World Series appearance on October 15th. In addition, there is a period notation written on underside of the rubber relaying the duration of use that is signed by (3) members of the grounds crew. Given season long installation we can presume that a host of notables likely spent time on the mound when this piece was installed including Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, and Warren Spahn. A rare and exceptionally well documented stadium piece. Handsomely displayed by means of a pair of wooden squares which have been attached at either end that sit in a pair of custom made wooden feet. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from the Pierce Family: EX
