Lot Number: 242

Description: Exceedingly rare Red Ruffing attributed professional model vault marked baseball bat c.1945. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 34oz. The name "Red Ruffing" is written along one side in vintage marker and "R82" model number vault marks have been factory applied at either end. This "R" prefix model number (denoting first letter of last name of the player whom sent the bat back to Louisville Slugger) and a series of caliper markings throughout confirm it's employ as a template for future Ruffing orders. Further corroboration can be found in his factory records which list a sole shipment of R82 model bats , 35" in length, made in 1945. Uncracked with strong usage wear evident throughout. The bat was originally issued for use by Ruffing's Yankee teammate George Stirnweiss who's facsimile signature is impressed in the barrel. An exceedingly rare example as attributed to the Hall of Fame pitcher with only (2) or (3) others known to have surfaced. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
