Lot Number: 105

Description: Significant 1897 Boston vs. Baltimore baseball game cabinet photograph (VG-EX) Exceedingly rare 19th century game action photograph depicting the third game of a series played between the rival Boston and Baltimore clubs at Union Park in Baltimore. Taken from a right field vantage, an overflow crowd is shown seated at the fields' edge and atop the fence. Image quality is exceptional boasting crisp focus and fine contrast. Titled within the negative at bottom margin and marked "Copyright 1897 by E.D.McAfee" at lower right. Well preserved on the original mount with the photo measuring 7 1/2"x9 1/2". A horizontal crease extends across the image only breaking the surface slightly. There is a touch of light chipping to extreme edges. To the best of our knowledge, only one other example is known, without titling or photographer's credit, and presently resides within the Library of Congress. Important Baltimore baseball related artifact with desirable provenance from the Bready Collection: VG-EX
