Lot Number: 182

Description: Superb 1931 Babe Ruth autographed professional model baseball bat (Breslow Collection)(PSA "GU 10"). Hand turned Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Ruth facsimile signature burned into the barrel measures 35" long and weighs 36.9oz. Exceptional usage wear is evident throughout with ball, stitch, and cleats marks to the barrel which has grain swelling due to repeated contact. On the handle are remnants of pine tar or a similar gripping agent. The back of the barrel has been signed, "To My Pal Lou Breslow, From Babe Ruth, Nov. 21st 1931" in bold period fountain pen rating 8 to 8/9 out of 10. Then at the height of his fame, Ruth joined forces with Breslow, a highly regarded Hollywood producer, to make a series of shorts which were released by Universal the following year. The two became fast friends and Babe took his time to autograph this bat before handing it to Lou; and exceptionally desirable trait which further serves to place it directly into his hands. With a (22) year playing career that stands as one of the most celebrated and storied in American sports, Babe Ruth cemented his indelible mark upon the game of baseball. Displaying unprecedented abilities to hit the ball with power, the likes of which had not previously been seen, Ruth captivated the American public and single handedly ushered in the era of the home run. No other figure in the history of our National Pastime has had so dramatic and lasting an influence. During our twenty five year company history we have been privileged to handle a number of top quality Ruth game bats with a very select few having the distinction of bearing his original autograph. In our experience these are, without qualification, the most desirable and sought after, never failing to attract the strongest interest. The offered example ranks among the very finest to have surfaced. Includes full LOA from JSA and LOAs from PSA/DNA (graded "GU 10"), and Hunt Auctions. In addition, a MEARS sticker is affixed to barrel end (graded "A10"): Sig. NM, Bat EX
