Description: Rare 1924 Negro League World Series "Opening Game" panoramic photograph. Historic image as taken on October 11, 1924 in Kansas City showing the hometown Monarchs and rival Hilldale Daisies just prior to Game (5) of the Inaugural Negro League World Series. Captioning at top reads in part, "First Colored World Series Opening Game...at Kansas City" and players/personnel are identified below their respective likenesses. Total of (8) future Hall of Fame Inductees are amongst those shown including players Jose Mendez, Bullet Rogan, Judy Johnson, Biz Mackey, and Luis Santop and League/team Officials Rube Foster, J.L. Wilkenson, and Alex Pompez. The best of nine game Series was won by Kansas City having been played in (4) different venues across just as many states with Game (5) being the first (thus "Opening") in Kansas City. Photograph retains fine display qualities despite condition flaws (noted as follows) with crisp clarity to visible area which measures approx. 6.5"x35". It has been professionally cleaned and mounted to archival backing with wear throughout to include several light/moderate creases, (4) small areas of upper surface paper loss (each surrounded by discoloration), additional very small spot where surface has been laid back down (with minor loss/discoloration surrounding), and (2) or (3) tears which do not have overwhelming effect now that the piece is laid to backing. Upper left corner has small chip and the lower left is missing an approx. 2.75"x1" section. Framed to 14.5"x42.5" overall. One of a select few copies to have surfaced of this noteworthy and important piece, originating from property of participating player Newt Joseph: see description
