Description:Christy Mathewson Tuxedo Tobacco trolley card advertising sign c.1910. Breathtaking display piece ranks as one the most desirable player endorsed advertisements ever produced. Heavy stock 11"x21" sign has "Christy Mathewson" titling at top and his endorsement and facsimile signature below. A lifelike portrait appears on the right hand side. Remains in original "as found" condition with some light chipping to extreme edges of full bleed red borders. Two corners of left edge have semi-circle surface creases which are confined to the red area. Central portion remains very well preserved with a handful of minute imperfections mentioned for the sake of accuracy, all being pinhead sized and majority are likely printing flaws rather than condition issues. A light "haze" or discoloration throughout could likely be reversed through use of a professional restoration company. Back has mild scattered toning with 4" strip of archival linen hinging tape from prior mounting which can be removed if so desired. The piece retains its original vibrant coloration and remains what is surely one of the nicest condition all-original examples to come to market. Our consignor was involved in the original small "find" of Tuxedo signs some years back and retained this copy for his personal collection: EX/MT
