Description: 1991 Ted Williams presentational display piece with related ephemera. Celebrated over a two day span on May 11th and 12th 1991 were the incredible events of a season that occurred 50 years earlier most notably by Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. On May 11, 1991 the Red Sox honored the two great players, and others, in ceremonies during the Upper Deck Heroes of Baseball series. It was on May 12, 1991 where there was a poignant and moving ceremony held at Fenway Park to specifically honor the lifetime and career of Ted Williams. Dignitaries, former teammates, and baseball notables paid tribute to Ted with an on field ceremony. Introduced by long time friend and announcer Curt Gowdy, Ted delivered a classic speech thanking the fans of Boston for their support. He closed by tipping his cap to the fans with a reference to the fact that he had never denied them that acknowledgement out of anything other than respect. Offered is the actual collage style display piece presented to Williams on that very day. Oversized 39"x49" wooden shadowbox display features all manner of items relating to the life and career of Williams to include full size Louisville Slugger bat, various black and white images of Williams, Fishing references, Jimmy Fund references, and numerous other pieces with relation to Williams' career. Overall condition is very fine with some slight cracking to an area on the backing of the wooden frame and some expected surface scratching to the Plexiglas front. The lot includes a leather bound presentational album as given to Ted with numerous photographs taken during the events. The lot also includes a Ted Williams autographed 8"x10" photo picturing Ted tipping his cap during the ceremonies and a Red Sox commemorative folder given to fans on that day with an identification legend of the display inside: EX
